Flying into Vail/Eagle Airport (EGE): what to expect

Quick answer

EGE is a small, single-terminal airport - most travellers are off the plane and at their vehicle inside 15 to 20 minutes. Ground transport leaves from Door 6 in the Ground Transportation Lot, on the same level as baggage claim, and Vail Village is about 45 minutes east on I-70.

01The terminal

EGE has one terminal and a short walk from gate to baggage claim, typically about 5 minutes. There is no train and no inter-terminal transfer. In winter the terminal gets busy on Saturday changeover days, when most weekly resort bookings arrive and depart at once.

02Baggage and ski gear

Oversized ski and snowboard bags come out at the oversize belt rather than the standard carousel. This is where most first-time EGE arrivals lose time - if you checked gear, go straight to oversize. Allow a little extra on peak winter Saturdays.

03Door 6 - where ground transport meets you

Pre-booked private transfers meet arrivals at Door 6, in the Ground Transportation Lot, same level as baggage claim. Our chauffeurs hold a name sign and track your flight with live FAA data, so a delayed arrival simply moves the pickup - there is no delay fee.

04Your ground options from EGE

Private transfer is door-to-door to your hotel or residence, about 45 minutes, flat rate locked at booking, gear capacity guaranteed. A shared shuttle is cheaper per seat but waits to fill and detours to other resorts. The Core Transit (ECO) bus is the cheapest option at roughly an hour with stops. A rental car is worth it only if you plan to drive during your stay - parking in Vail Village is limited and paid, and winter I-70 requires traction-law compliance.

05The drive to Vail

35 miles east on I-70, about 45 minutes in normal conditions and 60 to 90 in heavy snow or active chain law. The route stays west of Vail Pass, so it avoids the pass closures that affect Denver arrivals.
