Is there an airport in Vail, Colorado?

Quick answer

There is no commercial airport in the town of Vail itself. When people say "Vail airport" they mean Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) in Gypsum, Colorado - 35 miles west of Vail Village, about a 45-minute drive along Interstate 70.

01Why EGE is called the Vail airport

EGE sits in Gypsum, between the towns of Eagle and Gypsum, in the same valley as Vail and Beaver Creek. It is the only commercial airport within an hour of Vail Mountain and was expanded specifically to serve the Vail Valley resorts. Airlines, resorts and travel sites all market it as the Vail gateway, so Vail airport, Vail/Eagle airport and Eagle County airport all mean EGE.

02Airport codes you may see

EGE is the IATA code used on tickets and bags. KEGE is the ICAO code used in aviation and flight tracking. Booking engines sometimes list it as Vail/Eagle, CO (EGE).

03What about private aviation?

There is no public commercial airfield inside Vail town limits. Private and charter aviation in the valley also uses EGE, which has a full FBO operation. There is no closer option than EGE.

04Getting from EGE to Vail

35 miles, about 45 minutes, east on I-70 the whole way. The route does not cross Vail Pass, which is the main winter-reliability advantage over flying into Denver. We meet arrivals at Door 6 with live flight tracking and a flat rate locked at booking.
