The reason is voter-approved full runway reconstruction to FAA standards, including shifting the runway west and widening it from 100 ft to 150 ft.
02What to do during the closure
Official alternates during the closure are EGE, DEN, and GJT. For Aspen/Snowmass trips, EGE is the closest alternate at 68 miles from Aspen and about 90 minutes by ground via I-70 West and CO-82 South. Eagle Mountain Express runs that corridor daily.
03Season and terminal context
Winter 2026-27 is not affected: ASE stays open through the ski season, then closes April 4, 2027 and reopens November 19, 2027 just before the 2027-28 winter season. A new commercial terminal and new FBO break ground in April 2027 but are scheduled to open in 2029; the existing terminal stays in use once the runway reopens in November 2027.
